AISI 1045 / 45# Steel: Material Characteristics and Machining Performance

AISI 1045 is a medium-carbon engineering steel with roughly 0.42–0.50% carbon and 0.60–0.90% manganese. In the normalized or hot-rolled condition it typically offers a tensile strength around 565–700 MPa and a yield strength near 310–350 MPa, with Brinell hardness commonly in the 163–197 HB range.
